Egypt: 24 Muslim Brotherhood Members Sentenced To Death

A judicial source said on Thursday, in an Egyptian court that 24 Muslim Brotherhood members were sentenced to death for the killing of police officers in two separate cases.

In 2014, there was a case comprised of brotherhood members in Egypt, which result in killing policemen, in the judgement eight of the 24 accused were tied in Absentia – hanging them till death.

Again in 2015, the Damanhour Criminal Court which is to the north of Capital Cairo alleged the bombing of a bus transporting police officers in Coastal Beheria Governorate killed three policemen and wounded several others.

The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928, which calls for public life to be ruled by Islam, however, it remains banned in Egypt because of its alleged links to terrorism in different countries.

Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has cracked down on the Muslim brotherhood after the military outset of the former president Mohamed Morsi.

That said, The Muslim Brotherhood established itself as the main opposition movement in Egypt despite decades of repression, at the same time as inspired most movements and political parties across the Muslim world.
